ATLANTA -- SUPERVALU Inc. (NYSE:SVU), the nation's 11th largest food retailer and a leading food distributor, plans to pilot NCR Corp.'s (NYSE:NCR) self-checkout technology.
NCR's FastLane will be installed in seven stores in Chicago, St. Paul/Minneapolis and St. Louis during the fourth quarter of this year, according to a company news release. Five of the sites are Cub Food stores and two are Shop 'n Save stores.
SUPERVALU, which has more than 1,350 retail stores across 39 states, also operates under banners such as bigg's, Farm Fresh, Hornbacher's, Metro, Save-A-Lot, Scott's Foods and Shoppers Food Warehouse.
Self-checkout will be added to more stores in 2003, according to the release, but no specifics were mentioned.
