Latest KioWare for Android update enhances tablet-based digital signage kiosks

June 12, 2014

York, Pennsylvania-based Analytical Design Solutions has released Version 3.2.0 of its kiosk software KioWare for Android. The release is for the Kioware Lite, Basic and Full with Server models.

KioWare for Android enables tablets to act in kiosk mode by locking down the operating system and home screen launcher of Android devices, protecting them from unauthorized and unintended usage.

The latest release of KioWare for Android allows content and digital signage to be displayed on tablet kiosks using Google’s Chromecast media player.

The Chromecast “dongle” is a digital media player developed by Google that plays audio and video content on a high-definition display. The content is streamed via Wi-Fi from the Internet or a local network, and users select the media to play using Chromecast-enabled mobile apps and Web apps,

The ability to display locally-stored PDF files is another feature of the new version of KioWare for Android. “There have been a lot of requests for the PDF feature on forums, not just KioWare forums, but kiosk forums in general, so this feature should be a hit,” Laura Boniello Miller, KioWare kiosk software director of marketing at ADSI, said in an email. “Also, porting via Chromecast is a great low-cost option for a digital signage solution.”

Other improvements to the latest version of KioWare for Android include a new home button and back button options for navigating to or from the start page; French language configuration; and new XML file settings for media embedding and simple XML configuration across multiple devices.
