Las Vegas Home Depot stores deploy permit kiosks

September 10, 2012

Starting today, shoppers and contractors at select Las Vegas Home Depot stores will have self-service kiosks available for the issuance of certain building permits, according to an article in the Las Vegas Review Journal.

The kiosks can be used to give "proof of permit" on jobs that do not require review, such as replacing water heaters or heating and air conditioning units, the article explained. Those permits that do require review must go through the building department. Home Depot will collect a fee on the permits and then forward the permit information and the fee to Clark County, where an official permit would be generated.

The home improvement store will not profit from the permit kiosks, according to Ann Baker, process manager for Home Depot. Instead the service is seen as an incentive to drive more customer traffic into stores, according to the article.

The kiosk program is being piloted in 12 Home Depot locations, with a full deployment expected if the system is successful.
