The introduction of self-service kiosks for wedding cash gifts in South Korea has triggered a mixed response, with some praising their efficiency and others criticizing their impersonal nature, according to a report by The Korea Herald. These kiosks, similar to those used for restaurant orders, allow guests to contribute cash gifts via cash or credit card, generating meal and parking tickets in return.

The kiosks streamline the traditional process of gift collection, which typically involves family members managing envelopes and tallying amounts. While some view this as a practical adaptation to modern convenience, others express concerns about the loss of personal touch and the potential for the event to feel overly transactional.

"I know some people would find it uncomfortable — like we're running a business instead of celebrating a wedding," Park Yoo-jin, a soon-to-be bride, told the news outlet, highlighting a common concern.

Despite the convenience and security benefits, including the generation of detailed spreadsheets and the reduction of potential theft, many remain hesitant. A survey by The Korea Herald revealed a near-even split in opinions, with concerns about impersonality balanced by appreciation for the kiosks' efficiency. The kiosks also address the issue of family members missing the wedding ceremony to manage the traditional gift table.
