MELVILLE, N.Y. - Calling it the "McDonalds of the kiosk market," trade publication Photographic Processing magazine has named Eastman Kodak Co.'s (NYSE:EK) Picture Maker kiosk winner of its 2001 Readers Choice award for top digital photo kiosk.
Kodak has more than 35,000 digital photo kiosks deployed throughout the world, making it the world's largest kiosk deployment. Photographic Processing'sreaders praised the kiosk's efficiency and recent upgrades.
"Current software upgrades to Kodak's Picture Maker have made the kiosk's interface even easier to use, with new features including video animation," the magazine stated. "There is also a new audio option using built-in speakers-so the Picture Maker can `talk' customers through all the features of the kiosk."
In late October, Kodak announced plans to create an open architectural standard for its digital software, a move that could establish the software as the industry's standard (See story: Kodak establishing open standards for digital system).
Pixel Magic Imaging's Photo Ditto kiosk was named honorable mention in the category. The magazine noted that it was the first kiosk to offer specialty products, including invitations, announcements, and photo business card templates.
