KIS, FREEosk give c-store customers free Internet access

June 9, 2002

BROOMFIELD, Colo. -- Kiosk Information Systems (KIS) and Boston-based FREEosk Inc. are giving convenience store customers in the Boston area another convenient perk: free e-mail and Internet access.

The kiosk units, called FREEosks, link Store 24 customers to travel and movie information, local driving directions and online dating services, according to a KIS news release.

Since installed in December 2001, more than 30,000 customers have used the FREEosk units, located in 20 Boston-area Store 24 sites, according to the release. Store 24 estimates a .4 percent increase in store traffic during that time.

The FREEosk units use KIS' standard KW-612 WebStop product, which provides users with a place to sit. A video screen on top of the unit advertises convenience store products. The KW-612 also features a cash acceptor and credit card reader for customers interested in purchasing products online. Netkey provides the software and service.
