Federal authorities may deploy identity-scanning kiosks between Mexico and the U.S. in West Texas' Big Bend National Park, according to Third Age.
The program could be open by spring and would allow people from the Mexican town of Boquillas del Carmen to scan their identity documents and talk to a customs officer in a separate location at least 100 miles away. Customs and Border Protection would run the port of entry and have eight agents living in the park in addition to the park's 23 law enforcement rangers.
Opponents believe the kiosks would go against border tightening, but proponents disagree, saying that the park's 800,000-acre expanse would actually be a bane for criminal operations.
