Black Cat fireworks recently turned to custom audio-visual kiosks in order to assist customers in their purchasing decisions.
Frederick, Md.-based Kiosk Groupsupplied 52 fireworks retailers with "Cat Scan" kiosks — allowing customers to scan barcodes on Black Cat products and experience a high-definition demo of the items before purchasing.
Each 8-foot-tall kiosk contains a database of more than 275 HD videos of Black Cat fireworks displays. Once a UPC barcode is scanned, customers view the fireworks on a 47-inch monitor with high-fidelity sound and a chest-level sub-woofer.
"The customers flock to the Cat Scan kiosks. We see them standing in line, each waiting for their turn, and each with a shopping cart of fireworks to scan," said Mike Collar, president of Winco Fireworks, the largest distributor of Black Cat fireworks. "More significantly, we are seeing a higher volume of sales in stores with the Cat Scan kiosks. We're looking to put three or four kiosks in each of our bigger outlets."
