Technology such as kiosks, human voice assistance, predictive analytics and other disruptive technologies "will dramatically alter the relationship between business and consumers in the coming years," according to a new report issued by Kent State University's School of Journalism and Mass Communications in collaboration with CBD Marketing.

The team interviewed industry experts and a panel of senior marketers for the report, which is titled "Business on Demand," CBD said.

"We're at the beginning of a very predictable technology lifecycle," said Gina Miller, CBD Marketing's vice president, director of customer experience and demand management. "Technologies, ideas and models that are just emerging today are laying the foundation for a profound revolution. These innovations will converge and redefine entire industries."

The retail industry is imperative to economic well-being, CBD said in a release. The report takes a look at a "frictionless future," where consumer barriers to retail products are nearly eliminated. The research also examines mobile payments, virtual reality, digital watermarking, artificial intelligence and other technologies creating new shopping and transaction resources and channels, as well as breakthrough technologies in the banking, manufacturing, construction and education industries.

"A company needs to identify the opportunities that technology advances will create and the innovations they need to adopt to lead. It's not easy, but we're at the cusp of yet another tech revolution that will change everything ... again," Miller concluded.
