The City of Colorado Springs has installed self-service, interactive kiosk technology to enhance accessibility at its Rock Ledge Ranch Historical site, according to a KOAA report.
The site is a place where visitors go to experience both history and atmosphere, but hasn't always been accessible to those with disabilities.
"There were times where we just couldn't give the experience to those visitors that we wanted to, and so, it became a question of what can we do to enhance the experience of someone who maybe can't see or hear or maybe a mobility issue makes it impossible for someone to get to the third floor of one of the houses," Melissa Keown, lead interpreter at Rock Ledge Ranch Historical Site, told the news outlet.
The kiosk technology seeks to bridge this gap by offering services such as screen reading software that translates to American Sign Language. "The opportunity to be able to come out here and experience the ranch and learn about the history of Colorado Springs is invaluable," Keown said.
