Kiosk processing pedestrians on US/Mexico border

March 8, 2013

The Pedestrian READY Lane kiosk is now live at the Gateway International Bridge in Brownsville, Texas. According to a news report on kveo.com, the kiosk processes travelers crossing the U.S./Mexico border on foot by helping customs agents identify fake documents.

Officials say the kiosk check is actually just a step before the main processing that is meant to better prepare agents, the article reported.

"If there are any lookouts or anything like that the officers are already going to have a heads up," Customs and Border Protection Agent Eddie Perez said. "It'll give officers a few seconds to ID the person and know who they are before they come up to the booth. So we can make a determination if they need secondary inspection or can be sent down the road."
