Jewel-Osco puts an end to self-checkout

September 25, 2013

The northern Illinois grocery store chain Jewel-Osco is in the process of removing self-checkouts from its more than 170 store locations, according to a post on sj-r.com.

Company spokesperson Allison Sperling said the change will take place throughout the next year and will prompt the hiring of more cashiers and the addition of shorter express lanes.

Jewel-Osco also recently eliminated its customer loyalty cards.
