The Immigration Services Agency and Japan Customs has ordered kiosks from NEC Corp. for immigration and customs inspections to facilitate immigration and customs procedures at Haneda Airport Terminal 2, according to a press release.
A field pilot is scheduled to start on Jan. 31, 2024.
Upon arrival at Haneda Airport, foreign nationals will register the QR code for entry records and customs declaration information generated using the Visit Japan Web service provided by Japan's Digital Agency. They will then scan their IC passport at a customs declaration kiosk, take a photo to verify their identity using face recognition and undergo fingerprint scanning.
Powered by NeoFace, the core technology in NEC's Bio-IDiom portfolio of biometric authentication solutions, the kiosks can be used to verify the identity of travelers.
NeoFace can also automatically detect masks, sunglasses or other accessories.
