Two companies are bidding to provide commisary kiosk services for the county jail and a separate incarceration facility in Miami County, Ohio — Swanson’s Services Corp. and Sheehan Brothers Vending — and the bids are being reviewed by jail staff, the Dayton (Ohio) Daily News reports.
Inmates will be able to use assigned cards linked to their commissary account to purchase items from the kiosks instead of receiving them from corrections staff, according to the newspaper. Lobby kiosks will allow family and friends to deposit money into the accounts.
The kiosks will be placed in at the Miami County Jail in downtown Troy, Ohio, and the Miami County Incarceration Facility, also in Troy, the paper said. Another kiosk system to be installed at Preble County Jail in Eaton, Ohio will include vending machines and also allow inmates to place orders for items not available through vending, according to the paper.
