MILAN, Italy -- Italian hypermarket chain Auchan-Gruppo Rinascente, part of the Rinascente Group, has installed self-checkout from NCR Corp.in its flagship Turin store. The NCR FastLane system, named "Cassamica" (friendly cash register) by Auchan, offers shoppers the option to scan, bag and pay for their own purchases.
"Our Turin customers enjoy using Cassamica," said Marino Vignati, IT manager for Auchan. "The number of shoppers using self-checkout has grown steadily in the few weeks since the lanes were installed, and they already account for a significant number of transactions."
Auchan joins a growing list of European retailers reaping the benefits of NCR FastLane, including Italian supermarket chains Finiper and UniCoop Firenze, Dutch department store Hema Noordwijk, METRO in Germany, and UK retailer Marks & Spencer.
"We are proud of the Auchan project and the results of the NCR FastLane installation at the Turin store," said Alberto Camuri, vice president of NCR's Retail Solutions Division for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. "Auchan shared information with NCR's team of consultants and we worked together to identify the best self-checkout solution for the store."
Shoppers using the checkout technology can pay by cash, credit card or debit card. The system also accepts coupons and includes a module to deactivate security tags during the self-checkout process.
