The Iowa Department of Transportation is rolling out several driver's license kiosks in the eastern part of the state to reduce lines, according to areport by KCRG. Residents can use the kiosks to renew or replace their licenses.
The DoT hopes to reduce wait times with the kiosks. In order to use the kiosks, residents answer a few questions, scan their old license and take a picture. However, according to Lisa Miller, driver's license supervisor in Cedar Rapids, users can only renew non-commercial licenses via the kiosks.
However, the DoT does not expect the kiosks to fully replace driver's license stations. "We're always going to have the older drivers come in and the under 18 young kids to come in, so we're always going to have people who have to come to us," Miller said in an interview with KCRG.
