According to the Iowa City Press-Citizen, the Iowa City Ambulatory Surgical Center has deployed a new automated prescription drug dispenser.
The Iowa City surgical facility has installed InstyMeds, an automated ATM-style machine that dispenses prescriptions drugs. It is the is the first InstyMeds kiosk to be installed at a surgical center in Iowa, with four in emergency rooms and urgent care centers in around the state, Emily Theisen, marketing manager for Eden Prairie, Minn.-based InstyMeds, told the newspaper.
With the InstyMeds kiosk, surgeons will write a prescription for the patients and give it a code; after which patients can swipe a debit or credit card and enter the code to retrieve their medication, which is dispensed in the prescribed amount in a pre-packaged, labeled container.
