Indian railway operator to deploy automatic ticket vending kiosks

India’s North Central Railway plans to install 222 automatic ticket vending machines at train stations in the Allahabad, Jhansi and Agra divisions, the Times of India reports.

The Times cited Naveen Baby, North Central Railway’s chief public relations officer, as saying that 147 of the kiosks will only accept smart cards while the remaining 75 will accept smart cards and coins for purchasing tickets.

Passengers can purchase and reload smart cards at railway station ticket counters.

The Times of India reported that Indian Railways plans to install 5,594 ATVMs throughout India, of which 3,594 will only accept smart cards and the remainder will accept smart cards and coins.
