In-taxi kiosks take aim at passengers

Taxi passengers do not usually get much in-journey entertainment - perhaps a quick flick through the newspaper, or an anecdote from the driver. But this is set to change as taxis around the world install screens and interactive kiosks.

In trials of in-taxi TV going back at least five years, two key factors emerge as barriers to success:

  • The cost and capabilities of available technology.
  • An inability to give advertisers value for money when compared to other outdoor media, including taxi rooftops.

But are today's operators better positioned to succeed than their predecessors?
