AUSTRALIA--Print-on-demand kiosk systems in large-scale photo shops will allow consumers to make enlargements of prints instantly. And according to PC World Magazine Australia, Imaging manufacturer Ilford is planning to do just that Down Under
Called PRINTASIA Big Prints, the kiosks comprise Ilford's own image manipulation software, a light box, monitor, media card readers, pre-mounted boards, paper, and Epson Stylus PRO 7600 printer.
Ilford plans to roll out the kiosks at mass-market photo retailers such as department stores and supermarkets, instead of the photo specialist channel.
Consumers need to bring their images--either on a CD or one of the various media cards. Print enlargements vary in size from 5 x 7 in. to 20 x 24 in.
Ilford consumers can print straight onto pre-mounted boards. The boards have a special coating and when fed into a straight-through printer like the Epson PRO 7600, provide consumers with an image that is ready to be mounted on walls or placed into frames.
The kiosks are expected to be in stores by mid-year.
