Payment solutions company ID Tech has announced the release of August, an MSR-EMV hybrid reader. The device is designed specifically for countertops such as point-of-sale kiosks, according to a press release.
The card slot is attached to the top of the reader to prevent users from leaving their card in the reader after completing a transaction. The device also supports encryption of magnetic stripe and EMV data. The device is designed with "audible and visual cues" to improve customer experience, according to the release.
"The release of the Augusta is a dream come true for merchants looking to move from a magnetic stripe reader to an EMV solution. It provides a fast, seamless and extremely cost effective pathway to EMV transactions," said Bill Rorick, vice president of business development at ID Tech. "With the same basic envelope and identical mounting as our very popular MiniMag swipe readers, the switch from magnetic transactions to chip card transactions is truly almost as simple as just swapping out the reader."
