IBM to support Windows Embedded POS

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. - IBM Retail Store Solutions announced in a news release it intends to enable Windows Embedded for Point of Service on select models of its SurePOS 300 Series, 500 Series and 700 Series, SurePOS 4694, SureOne and Anyplace Kiosk. IBM intends to make preloaded models of select offerings available in the second half of 2005.

"By supporting WEPOS, IBM demonstrates our continuing commitment to open platforms, broad operating system support, and maximum choice for retailers," the release stated. "This version of Windows XP Embedded is designed with retail customers in mind, and is ideal for retailers who are committed to a Microsoft implementation. It is cost-effective, easy to use and features one image that supports virtually all of the configurations retailers need."
