HP kiosks debut in OfficeMax

CLEVELAND and PALO ALTO, Calif. - OfficeMax Inc. (NYSE: OMX) and Hewlett-Packard Company (NYSE: HWP) have formed an alliance that brings HP computers to nearly 1,000 OfficeMax locations nationwide and on the Web at OfficeMax.com.

OfficeMax stores will host an HP-branded kiosk, enabling customers to customize selections and locate additional product details. A broad selection of HP desktop and notebook PCs will be available through an interactive online program inside participating OfficeMax locations in the United States. Gateway Inc., the previous computer provider for OfficeMax, is being phased out.

The deal allows OfficeMax to capture all peripheral and printer sales made to computer purchasers in its stores, instead of some sales going to the computer manufacturer, as was the case under the Gateway arrangement.
