Healthy vending kiosk co enrolling school franchises

San Diego-based vending franchisor Fresh Healthy Vending International has been adding schools to its franchise locations. Of the 72 location contracts secured in May, nearly half (33) were for school campuses.

Fresh Healthy Vending said it supports the efforts of the USDA's Smart Snacks in School standards, which require schools to sell food items that meet published requirements for calories, sodium, fat and sugar content. The company recently updated its www.freshandhealthy.org website to cater to the new USDA guidelines and to support locations that want to implement a healthy vending program.

“Our locations department used the website in May to appeal to schools, corporations and community centers to secure locations for our franchisees,” CEO Alex Kennedy said in a statement. “With the summer months approaching, now is the ideal time for us to lock in location contracts and have machines installed by the start of the school year.”

Fresh Healthy Vending has 230 franchisees in the U.S., Canada, Puerto Rico and the Bahamas. As part of its franchise program, the company’s locations department secures installations of its healthy snack machines and Fresh Micro Markets in locations across the U.S., which are then owned and operated by franchisees.

The company also has a corporate-owned machine division, which provides an independent revenue stream separate from franchise sales.

School locations procured by Fresh Healthy Vending in May include: Radford High School in Honolulu; Waverly Middle School in Baltimore; Cincinnati Country Day School in Cincinnati; Francisco Medrano Middle School and Balch Springs Middle School in Dallas; Alpha Technical Institute in Dearborn, Michigan; and Broward Community College in Davie, Florida.

Additional locations secured by Fresh Healthy Vending include the Children’s Museum of Wilmington in Wilmington, North Carolina; Mt. Sinai Medical Center in Miami, Florida; Moody Air Force Base in Valdosta, Georgia; U4ria Dance Studio in Coral Springs, Florida; the Moultrie YMCA in Moultrie, Georgia; and the Apple Store in San Francisco.
