BodyMedia Inc., a provider of wearable body monitors designed for health and wellness, has made an agreement with HealthSpot Inc., that will allow health care professionals offering videoconference consultations through HealthSpot Care4 Stations to recommend BodyMedia FIT armband-based body monitoring systems. BodyMedia helps patients improve their diets, become more active and get more sleep, according to a company press release. BodyMedia armbands will also be sold at retail stores that have HealthSpot kiosks.
The HealthSpot Care4 Station is a fully enclosed kiosk that uses real-time, high-definition videoconferencing to connect patients to health care providers in settings like pharmacies, supermarkets and workplaces. HealthSpot is developing a network of health care partners that include doctors as well as nutritionists and wellness coaches.
BodyMedia FIT armbands track calories burned, steps taken, level of physical activity and sleep patterns that affect health and weight, utilizing a proprietary four-sensor system that collects 5,000 data points per minute. Companion software stores that information, allows users to set goals and document daily food intake, and recommends activity and dietary adjustments based on each user's weight and fitness goals, actual calorie expenditure and food intake for the day.
