Handango, WideRay to deliver wireless downloads from a kiosk

September 4, 2002

HURST, Texas, and SAN FRANCISCO -- Mobile software publisher Handango Inc. and platform provider WideRay are joining forces to produce mobile kiosks that will offer Handago's catalog of 20,000 applications for devices such as personal digital assistants (PDAs).

The two companies will market the solution to retailers, handset manufacturers, and wireless carriers. No deployment plans were disclosed in the Sept. 4 announcement.

Handango plans to offer its product line using WideRay's Jack mobile caching server. The technology offers PDA users wireless access to downloadable software products. Currently, trial runs are taking place with Palm OS and Pocket PC handhelds at retail locales. Eventually, customers will be able to make their purchases directly through the kiosk.
