Georgia county library proposes kiosks to reach underserved

The Gwinnet County, Georgia Public Library System is currently considering deploying a 24-hour library kiosk, according to areport by WSB Radio.

The library Executive Director Charles Pace presented this idea to the library board on August 31. He presented the EnvisionWare library kiosk as an example.

"It's basically if you took like three or four Redbox machines and kind of stuck them together… it's kind of similar to that," Pace said in an interview with WSB. "It is a low-cost alternative to provide some degree of services in communities where they otherwise wouldn’t have any."

However, Pace does not believe the library can afford the $200,000 bill for the kiosk currently, especially with recent budget cuts.

"We would either have to look for a grant or private funding, or it might be something we put in a future budget request from the county," Pace said. However, Pace believes that a kiosk could help expand the footprint of the library and serve underserved areas.
