GDS acquires kiosk manufacturer ADM Italia

September 30, 2008

CORNEDO VICENTINO, Italy — Global Display Solutions, provider of industrial displays and digital signage solutions, has acquired kiosk manufacturer ADM Italia, a small company in Bolzano, Northern Italy, with experience and reputation in the kiosk/self-service market.

According to a news release, the acquisition will offer GDS a way to enter the kiosk market by combining the experience of ADM with GDS' technologies and capabilities.

Kiosks for ticketing can be provided with touchscreen, keyboard and PIN pad; credit card or other payment systems; and color or black and white laser/thermal printers. Some models can also include an adjustable arm to meet the needs of people with physical impairments.

GDS' kiosks for identity recognition can be used wherever there must be a control before providing products with specific law restrictions, such as the purchase of cigarettes or alcohol.

The device is provided with a webcam and an identity document scanner. Once the request of the user is submitted, the kiosk sends the webcam image and the picture of the document to a remote center. An operator matches the details of the document with the identity of the person and allows people to receive the product/service they asked for.
