Fujitsu updates U-Scan self-checkout software

June 18, 2013

Fujitsu today announced its next generation of the U-Scan self checkout with features that the company said will benefit retailers in a competitive market.

The Fujitsu U-Scan 4.7 improves on the existing U-Scan technology by adding customer personalization with support of the My U-Scan mobile application, support of Windows Embedded POSReady 7 and customer station check processing, according to a news release.

The upgrade is designed and tested for backwards compatibility with all currently supported U-Scan hardware product versions including NextGen, U-Scan Genesis self checkout and other self-checkout competitors.

Other new product features include:

  • User interface: Customers can navigate grocery commands and process transactions without delays.
  • Automated software maintenance: Updates improve a security warning when an ASM update control is launched by a non-administrative user, and ASM database rollback support.
  • System management: The updated software removes the outdated framework and enhances cash payment timeout.

"We continue to update technology such as the U-Scan version 4.7 software to meet the demands of our retailers and improve their relationships with consumers," said Brian Yates, director of retail product marketing at Fujitsu America Inc. "The consumer will enjoy the ease of use improvements when shopping at a store, and the retailer will benefit from an increase in customer satisfaction, productivity and efficiencies."
