Free software from Advanced Kiosks helps deployers go green

April 19, 2013

Advanced Kiosks announced it is now offering automated hibernation software that brings an added "green" capability to the self-service industry, just in time for Earth Day 2013.

The GreenTimer software allows deployers to create a schedule that will automatically turn their kiosks, digital signage and other public computers on and off at preselected times, giving a user-friendly solution designed to increase the incentive to go green.

Sustainability practices extend to the manufacturing of Advanced Kiosks products, as the company said it uses recycled packing materials for shipping, and each kiosk enclosure is made of high-quality, recycled steel and finished with a powder-coating technology that is much more environmentally friendly than traditional liquid paints.

Advanced Kiosks started installing the GreenTimer on its kiosk solutions in October 2012. Now, the software is available as a limited time free download for any self-service kiosk or public-facing computer, regardless of the original manufacturer, the announcement said.

"There is just no need to run most self-service kiosks 24/7," said Howard Horn, Advanced Kiosks' president and owner. "GreenTimer extends the life of kiosk electronics by reducing wear and tear. Plus it saves $80 to $120 a year in energy costs per computer kiosk, depending on the age and efficiency of the system."
