Former redbox exec to lead rival DVD kiosk start-up

November 29, 2010

Public Media Works Inc., the Los Angeles-based parent of upstart DVD-rental kiosk company EntertainmentXpress, has hired former redbox executive Greg Waring as president and CEO, according to a story at HomeMedia.com.

Waring replaces interim president Bill Zabit, who remains as chief marketing officer. Waring helped develop redbox’s initial consumer communications, branding and promotions efforts when the kiosk vending icon was owned by McDonald’s. During his tenure at redbox, the kiosk brand expanded from 100 retail locations to 4,500, increasing revenue from $3 million to $100 million.

Waring left redbox in 2007 after four years as vice president of marketing for the company, and before redbox spent 11 years in various roles with McDonald’s, lastly as a senior director and director of business development for the company’s Global Digital Innovation Group.
