Ford Motor Company will install an information kiosk onsite at its Ford World Headquarters location to show visitors how solar power works and to offer details on its new solar-powered electric vehicle carport, according to a company announcement.

The Dearborn, Mich. Company is partnering with DTE Energy to provide Ford employees with a covered parking lot of 360 spaces and 30 charging kiosks for electric cars. The solar-based carport is capable of powering "158 average-sized homes," the company said. Ford hopes to reduce the amount of electricity it uses to power its offices with the project and to offset carbon emissions by 794 metric tons a year.

The project will begin in September and is scheduled for completion in early 2015, the release said.
