A Florida House health care panel has approved a bill, HB 59, to allow community pharmacies to use automated pharmacy systems to provide access to prescription drugs, according to a Health News Florida report. The kiosks have video conferencing or video teleconferencing capability that lets patients speak to a pharmacist.
State law presently allows automated pharmacy systems in institutional facilities. The Florida Board of Pharmacy has already approved two systems for hospital campuses. Such kiosks are in use in Miami and Jacksonville hospitals.
The bill would allow community pharmacies to operate the systems.
