Members of Colorado-based Schreiver Air Force Base fitness center can soon enjoy the aerobics class of their choice with the installation of a new kiosk in the next two weeks, according to the Schreiver Sentinel.
The self-service aerobics classes will allow participants access to instructor-led courses anytime during fitness center hours, solving a 10-year-old problem for the organization. The fitness kiosk, funded by the 50th Mission Support Group, includes classes in Pilates, yoga, spinning and an array of aerobics.
"We used to provide instructor-led classes like aerobics and Pilates off and on, but since we are a relatively small base, we've suffered from fluctuating demand," fitness center director Seth Cannello said in the article. "On some occasions, we would schedule a time and date for a class and have an instructor travel out here to teach it, only when they arrived we had no participants. Other times, we would have people show up for a class and then have no instructor. So, when we faced budget constraints in 2011 that was one of the easiest programs to cut."
Users will select classes from the kiosk, and a 100-inch screen will reflect an instructor-led video from a projector.
"I am extremely excited to try it out," Schreiver's Sexual Assault Response Coordinator, Paula Krause, said in the article. "I have participated in the aerobics classes previously and I have really missed them since the fitness center had to discontinue them. A number of us have bought workout CDs and we rotate them, but this would be better. I think it would definitely give the base population flexibility with their workout schedules."
