Federated's holiday décor to include kiosks

CINCINNATI -- Federated Department Stores Inc. (NYSE:FD)(PCX:FD) is adding in-store computer kiosks to its new décor as the chain upgrades 42 stores nationwide in time for the 2002 holiday season.

Internet kiosks will be added to the chain's Juniors departments, according to a company news release. Customers will be able to use the kiosks to check e-mail and local entertainment venues.

The chain is testing other innovations as well, including radio frequency phone systems, plasma TV screens, in-store childcare, customer refreshment venues and sit-down Internet stations.

Federated, with corporate offices in Cincinnati and New York, reports more than $15.6 billion in annual sales. The company operates more than 460 stores in 34 states, Guam and Puerto Rico. The stores operate under the names Macy's, Bloomingdale's, The Bon Marche, Burdines, Goldsmith's, Lazarus and Rich's.
