Farmer's Fridge launches healthy vending kiosk

November 5, 2013

The Farmer's Fridge healthy vending concept has launched in Chicago, with refrigerated fresh food kiosks that the company hopes will make people think of them not as vending machines, but "veggie machines." Farmer's Fridge follows a similar health food-focused vending trend set by the likes of Outerwall's Crisp Market vending machine or the Fresh Healthy Vending franchise.

The automated kiosk features a touchscreen design in an enclosure made with reclaimed barn wood. The kiosk is stocked each morning with fresh foods such as salads, yogurt and granola, sliced vegetables, fruit and an assortment of lean protein. Each machine contains an on-site recycling bin for empty plastic salad containers, courting the concept's message of health and sustainability.

The Farmer's Fridge kiosk accepts all major credit cards and also features bar code scanners for coupons and issues email receipts. Product images, nutrition and ingredient information are displayed in a large, easy to read format, the company said.

"Finding fresh, healthy food shouldn't be hard. Sure, you can find healthy offerings at a sit-down restaurant or a grocery store, but people don't always have that kind of time. I want to make it fast and easy for someone to choose a delicious, nutritious smart meal when they are on-the-go," said Farmer's Fridge Founder Luke Saunders. "What we're doing is taking the vending machine concept and revolutionizing it. You can now find a truly healthy, satisfying meal at Farmer's Fridge."
