Epson announces printer updates, thin client applications

August 7, 2013

Epson America Inc. has announced that Auto~Star Compusystems Inc., a developer of POS and retail management software, has certified Epson's OmniLink DT-series for its Star~Plus POS software. The company will sell and support Epson's OmniLink DT-series devices for thin client and cloud applications in a variety of retail segments, including supermarket, pharmacy, and health and natural products.

"Our customers want to free up counter space, without sacrificing powerful POS functionality, and the Epson OmniLink DT definitely delivers," saidd Robert Symmonds, president of Auto~Star Compusystems. "This device is small and sleek, but very powerful — it is jam-packed with functionality. We're looking forward to diving in and realizing the potential of Epson's OmniLink DT devices, and our first pilot is in the works."

Epson also announced updates to its low-profile TM-T70 thermal receipt printer, which it said offers all-front access for under-the-counter placement, fast print speeds, built-in dual interface connectivity, paper savings and couponing features.

Unlike traditional thermal printers, Epson's TM-T70II does not require clearance for top or side-opening, enabling it to operate in small spaces for retail, convenience store, food service and various kiosk applications where space is at a premium, according to the release.

"This printer series has been very successful due to its form factor," said Gregg Brunnick, director of marketing for Epson's Business Systems Division. "We've added even more functionality to complement retail and hospitality applications. When space is at a premium, this printer is a great fit."
