MEXICO CITY - In July, Latin American specialty retailer Grupo Elektra S.A. de C.V. (BMV: ELEKTRA, NYSE: EKT) and Todito launched a pilot program to sell personal computers, Internet access and computer training packages. Now 25 of the units have been deployed, the company announced.
The kiosks are operational in Elektra and Salinas y Rocha stores, selling 560 PCs to date.
Elektra expects to have Todito-branded kiosks in 150 stores by the end of the year.
Elektra reported record third quarter 2000 results, with revenue climbing17.6 percent to the equivalent of $355 million. Operating income rose to $36 million, or 22.7 percent higher in real terms than the same period of 1999. Net income for the quarter rose 367 percent to $34 million.
