The New York State Department of Veterans' Services has launched its latest veterans welcome center digital kiosk on July 16 at the Western New York Welcome Center in Grand Island, according to a press release. This interactive digital portal offers 24/7 access to over 60 state programs and services, specifically designed to meet the needs of veterans, service members and military families.
The Grand Island location was strategically chosen for its high traffic between Buffalo and Niagara Falls, aiming to provide convenient access to vital benefits and support for the region's military community.
The kiosk program is part of a statewide expansion initiative, fulfilling Governor Kathy Hochul's promise to install these kiosks in all New York State welcome centers. The DVS digital kiosk program recently received the 2024 Abraham Lincoln Pillars of Excellence Award for Most Innovative State Program from the National Association of State Directors of Veterans Affairs, recognizing its national impact and drawing interest from other states.
"Whether they are returning home or just visiting, veterans in Western New York now have a trusted, easily accessible place to connect with the benefits they have earned," Viviana M. DeCohen, commissioner of the New York State Department of Veterans' Services, said in the release. "By placing our digital kiosks in welcoming, well-traveled locations such as the Western New York Welcome Center on Grand Island, we are removing barriers and building bridges, ensuring that no veteran is left behind."
