DeepMagic, a New York City-based technology company, uses a combination of computer vision and artificial intelligence to provide self-contained, cashierless "Qick Kiosks" for existing retail locations, according to The Spoon.
Customers use an app to unlock the kiosk doors, take the products they want and leave. Cameras monitor activity in the kiosk and automatically charge the customer's card.
Unlike Amazon Go, DeepMagic does not aim to own and operate its own cashierless stores. The company simply looks to provide existing stores with kiosks that can help them realize incremental sales opportunities — similarly to popup shops in office building lobbies or apartment complexes.
Bernd Schoner, co-founder and CEO of DeepMagic, said his company can offer retailers satellite locations that can operate 24/7.
