Companion builds kiosks for ski resort

February 25, 2002

SALT LAKE CITY - Companion Systemshas designed and built a kiosk that will greet skiers at the Park City Mountain Resort this season. Three kiosks will be mounted on exterior walls and will enable skiers to buy lift tickets with a credit card.

The kiosks will display other information on a touch screen monitor, and can be adapted for other uses in the off-season, according to a company news release. The ski season begins Nov. 10 and continues through the spring, and is expected to attract more interest in anticipation of the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.

Companion, a 22-year-old firm whose forte is the construction of enclosures to surround ATMs, is developing similar kiosk projects involving pharmaceuticals and human resources applications, according to marketing director Amy Burke. She said the company is marketing its ski lift kiosks to other resorts, though the Park City Mountain Resort application is the first of its kind.

Experienced skiers who want to head straight for the slopes without Park assistance will be able to use the ticketing kiosks and receive both a paper ticket and a receipt, Burke said.
