Coke hits milk market, plans Internet kiosks

April 14, 2002

ATLANTA -- The real thing isn't always cola, carbonated or dressed up in a classic red and white can.

Coca-Cola plans to market milk-based drinks to kids to keep one leg up in the billion-dollar soft drink industry, the Associated Press reports. Under its Project Mother initiative, the company will test at least five dairy beverages in 2001, according to the AP.

Coke is also in the research and development stages of other attempts to generate revenue including Web-enabled kiosks, a line of fruit juice-based drinks and in-home water purification systems.

Rob Baskin, a Coke spokesman, said the company is attempting to sell itself as a "total beverage firm," the AP reports. Dozens of new Coke projects are taking off around the world, Baskin said.
