SEATTLE -- Coinstar Inc. (Nasdaq:CSTR) and PhotoWorks Kiosks Inc. have launched a pilot project that provides digital camera users with high-quality prints and photo CDs.
The pilot will run for six months at approximately 50 supermarkets in Reno, Nev., Charlotte, N.C., and Seattle, according to a news release from the companies.
Customers can bring their digital memory card or CD to the Coinstar Centers, where they'll view the images on a touchscreen interface, select the images to print and complete the credit card order. The process can take less than two minutes, according to the release.
Images are uploaded to PhotoWorks for advanced digital photo printing. Customers usually receive prints and photo CDs through the mail in two to three days.
Coinstar has more than 10,500 machines that count coins and perform other electronic services in supermarkets throughout the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.
PhotoWorks provides photo services online, in retail locations and through direct mail.
