Circuit City Superstores use kiosks to educate customers on Net access

April 15, 2002

RICHMOND, Va. -- Circuit City is helping shoppers sort through new choices of Internet access with kiosks.

The consumer electronics retailer is providing in-store sign-up for a range of AOL services, CompuServe and MSN. Customers can select their screen name in the store for all three Internet service providers and go home and start using them. Customers signing up in the store for these services are entitled to an instant rebate of up to $400, which customers can use immediately to purchase products in the store.

So that consumers can experience the variety of products and services that allow them to access the Internet via a single AOL account, Circuit City has pulled all the connectivity options together in one in-store display. These display kiosks have been added to every Superstore nationwide and enable customer interaction with the different products that offer Internet connectivity, including the television, handheld computers and wireless phones.

Another addition to the Superstores is expanded wireless communications displays. Circuit City now offers four national or regional providers in most Superstores. The displays are designed to help customers discover the latest trends in both products and services as ISPs continue to add wireless Internet connectivity options to their coverage areas.
