Circuit City kiosks connect customers to DSL

March 18, 2002

CUPERTINO, Calif. - Circuit City Stores Inc. is making DIRECTV DSL available through retail kiosks.

DIRECTV DSL provides the high-speed Internet access, called Digital Subscriber Line (DSL), to consumers as a service of DIRECTV Broadband Inc. The partnership with Circuit City marks DIRECTV Broadband's entry into the national retail marketplace, according to a news release.

Richmond, Va.-based Circuit City will roll out its in-store service offering of DIRECTV DSL in September. By the end of October, DIRECTV DSL service will be available at 435 Circuit City stores nationwide, the release stated.

Using kiosks, customers will be able to enter their phone number and find out if the service is available in their area. The service is also available online at www.directvdsl.com/.

DIRECTV Broadband, formerly known as Telocity, designed and manufactures a self-installable residential gateway. A gateway, sometimes called a DSL modem, is used for connecting DSL service to a customer's computer. Once a customer has ordered DIRECTV DSL, the company works with the phone companies in the customer's area to provide the DSL technology to the customer's home.
