Cellphone recycling service provider ecoATM announced it reached the 3-million mark in kiosk collections of MP3 players, phones and tablets.
This year saw 1 million of those transactions since January, with the highest collections being of the Apple iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S. The San Diego Company claims 400 million unused phone will await recycling by the end of 2014.
EcoATM was subject to recent theft controversies involving accusations of both encouraging theft of phones for cash recycling and of catching thieves with its fingerprint and identification technology used for each transaction.
As of the end of July 2014 ecoATM has 1,100 kiosks across the U.S.
