Cap One testing financial kiosks

April 4, 2002

Capital One is exploring a financial kiosk deployment with top retailers including Wal-Mart and KMart, according to an Information Access Co. report.

The Falls Church, Va.-based financial services company wants to issue credit cards through the kiosks, primarily to customers who don't have traditional bank accounts. Capital One, a leading provider of credit cards, plans to provide money orders, wire transfers, lending products and payroll disbursement through the kiosks. A company official said the concept is in the testing stage, and didn't say when the kiosk program will be launched.

The concept is similar to an ongoing financial kiosk program by American Express now underway through 7-Eleven convenience stores.
