Cannabis authority working to get ganja kiosks in Jamaica

June 20, 2016

The Cannabis Licensing Authority is now working with the Jamaican government to get its airports and seaports stocked with ganja kiosks. The kiosks will dispense licenses that will allow visitors to get samples of medical marijuana during their stay, according to a report by The Gleaner.

According to CLA Chairman Hyacinth Lightbourne, visitors who had a prescription would be able to pick up a voucher for ganja. If the visitor doesn't have a prescription, they can still receive a sample of two ounces.

The CLA believes this type of kiosk will bring in a significant amount of tax revenue for the Jamaican government. "In Colorado last year, even though it is recreational and medicinal, they sold about $1 billion worth of marijuana and collected $135 million in taxes for the state alone with a population of 5 million-plus," said Delano Seiveright, a CLA member. "So you can see the potential it presents."
