Campuses go green with Evive kiosks

October 22, 2012

Evive Station LLC is battling plastic waste with the rollout of its reusable water bottle cleaning and filling kiosks.

According to an article on triblive.com, the Evive kiosk works with its own RFID-equipped reusable water bottles, allowing users to clean and fill them at no cost. The kiosks are located on several college campuses in West Virginia, Pennsylvania and California.

Evive first deployed at West Virginia University and gave away about 4,000 stainless steel bottles equipped with RFID, the article reported. Starting in December, plastic reusable bottles will be sold for $10 online on Evive's website, with each buyer asked to fill out a profile with details such as academic major, expected graduation year and interests. The test has been successful at WVU, with an enrollment of almost 30,000, the article reported.

When a student stops for a drink, the RFID tag triggers personalized advertisements on a 32-inch screen based on information listed in his or her profile. Machines filter and dispense water from public lines, and fillups are unlimited, the article reported.
