KANSAS CITY -- Outdoors retailer Cabela's will be using kiosks to communicate the beauty of freshwater fish when it opens its latest retail store on Aug. 15 in Kansas City.
The 188,000-square-foot retail center will include a 55,000-gallon, walkthrough aquarium stocked with freshwater fish indigenous to the Kansas City area. The aquarium will also feature interactive kiosks with touchscreens that identify each fish and its characteristics.
The store will also feature a 30-foot-tall bronze wildlife sculpture, which Cabela's officials said would be the world's largest bronze wildlife sculpture; a 36-foot-tall mountain replica featuring waterfalls, streams, and a trout pond; and an 11,500-square-foot museum displaying trophy mule deer mounts.
Cabela's, a mail-order and Internet retailer, has seven other locations in Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. Company officials said its flagship location in Sidney, Neb., attracts 1.5 million visitors annually.
